Overview

Symantec has released Patch 176 for Symantec Mail Security for SMTP 5.0.0.
This patch addresses issues encountered by the installer included in Patch
175. Patch 176 includes and supersedes patches 170, 171, 172/172b, and 175

Symantec encourages all Windows based customers to update Symantec Mail
Security for SMTP 5.0.0 with this patch. The patch is available on the

Symantec has posted Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) signatures to update
Symantec Client Firewall versions 7.1.4 and above. Security Update 52
includes additional detection for known intrusions.

Symantec announces the availability of Symantec Information Foundation Mail
Security 6.0 for Microsoft Exchange. This replacement to Symantec Mail
Security 5.0.x for Microsoft Exchange includes the following features:

Dramatic performance improvements:
- Code optimizations within the product itself and sub-components
- Leverage in-memory scanning to accelerate scans and reduce CPU
- Scan at Edge and Hub server roles, eliminating the need to scan messages
in transit at the mailbox server unless new definitions arrive
- Scanning window for background and serial scans - accelerate scanning of
the message store by only scanning messages in the past X
hours/days/weeks/months as it is less likely that older messages would still
contain threats
